This policy explains what Our Quest Begins (“we”, “us”) collects when you visit ourquestbegins.com, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.
The short version
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not ask you to create an account to read anything.
- We collect basic analytics about how pages are used, and we run advertising and affiliate links.
- You can email us at any time to ask what we hold about you, or to have it deleted.
Information you give us
If you email us, subscribe to a newsletter, or leave a comment, we receive whatever you choose to send: your name, your email address, the content of your message, and any photos you attach. We use it to reply to you and, where you have asked for it, to send you updates. Comment data (name, email, comment, IP address and browser user agent) is stored so the comment can be shown and checked for spam.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs. Our host records IP address, browser type, referring page and the time of each request, for security and troubleshooting.
- Analytics. We use analytics software to understand which guides are read and where readers get stuck. This is reported to us in aggregate.
- Cookies and similar storage. Used to remember your preferences (including whether you chose the light or dark theme, which is stored only in your own browser), to keep the site fast, and by our advertising partners.
Advertising and affiliate links
Some pages contain affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate networks and advertisers may set their own cookies and use them to measure clicks and sales, and to show you relevant advertising. We do not control those cookies. Who we share information with
We share personal information only with the service providers who make the site work — our web host, email provider, analytics provider and advertising partners — and only as far as they need it. We also disclose information where the law requires it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to certain processing, and to opt out of targeted advertising or the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information as those terms are defined under laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA/CPRA. To exercise any of these, email hello@ourquestbegins.com and we will respond within the timeframe the law allows. We will not discriminate against you for asking.
Children
This site is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.
Retention and security
We keep personal information for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected, then delete it. The site is served over HTTPS, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of the page. Material changes will be noted on the page itself.
