Our Quest Begins is written by two named people. This page explains how the guides get made and what we do when we get something wrong.

Who writes here

Every article is written by one of our two editors, and each post carries that person’s byline and links to their profile. We do not publish guest posts, and we do not publish anonymous articles.

  • Claire Bennett — Gardening Editor. Vegetables, containers and houseplants — Zone 7a, Asheville, North Carolina.
  • Wyatt Nolan — Home & DIY Editor. Decorating, furniture and weekend builds — Fort Collins, Colorado.

How a guide gets written

  • We do the thing first. Plants are grown, projects are built, rooms are rearranged. Where a guide draws on our own results, we state the conditions — the zone, the season, the room size, the budget.
  • We check it against reliable sources. For anything beyond our own experience — plant toxicity, chemical safety, building practice — we rely on university extension services, manufacturers’ instructions and published safety guidance, and we link to them.
  • We name the limits. If something depends on your climate, your light or your landlord, the guide says so instead of pretending there is a single answer.
  • A second editor reads it. Claire reviews the garden side, Wyatt reviews the build side, and each reads the other’s work before it goes live.

Updates

Guides are revisited when a season, a product or a recommendation changes. The date shown on a post is the date it was last reviewed, not just the date it was first published.

Corrections

If we get something wrong we fix it and say what changed at the bottom of the post. To report an error, email hello@ourquestbegins.com with the page and what is wrong — corrections from readers are welcome and we act on them.

Independence

Advertising and affiliate partners have no say in what we cover or what we conclude. See the affiliate disclosure for how the site is funded.

What we will not do

  • Publish AI-generated articles under a human byline.
  • Recommend a product we have not used or researched properly.
  • Copy another publisher’s work.
  • Give medical, veterinary, legal or structural-engineering advice — for those, see a professional.
