Advertising

We display advertising on the site. Advertisers do not get to see, approve or influence our articles before they are published, and they never get to change a recommendation.

Gifted and sample products

Occasionally a company sends us a product to try. When that happens we say so clearly at the top of the post. Being sent something for free does not buy a positive review — if a product is poor, we either say so or we do not cover it at all.

Sponsored content

If a post is paid for, it is labelled as sponsored at the top, before you read it. We decline sponsorships for products we would not use ourselves.

How we pick products

We recommend the thing we would buy with our own money for the job in question — which is often not the most expensive option, and is sometimes secondhand. Where a cheaper alternative does the same job, we say so.
